Rotherham: One Town, One Community.
For over 800 years, Rotherham has been a flourishing market town. The town was placed on the map by the Archbishop of York, Thomas Rotherham in the 15th Century and grew on the banks of the River Don. Moreover the Rotherham Minster Church which has been on the site since 937 AD was described by Pevsner as “the best perpendicular church in the
country”.

With the coming of the industrial revolution, Rotherham was dominated by heavy industry of coal and steel. This encouraged jobseekers and the population grew.
Fast forwarding to the 21st Century, Rotherham has seen considerable developments over the last few years. The Clifton Park Museum with the help of a £3 million grant was totally refurbished. A state of the art Leisure Complex was erected, the Magna Science and Adventure Centre was opened and a new train station was set into operation in 2012. The Rotherham Borough Council office buildings and central library have also been developed on a new site.
According to the Rotherham Mid-year population Estimates, since 2001 the population of
Rotherham has steadily grown over the years.
